The primary focus of Bread of Life Frontier Missions is to empower national ministers to effectively plant churches that will in turn reproduce themselves many times over. To that end, we continue to pray that God would raise up national church planters with a heart to take the Word in to those areas that have not yet heard. In La Huasteca (Aztec country) it is estimated that there are approximately 750,000 villagers spread over some 3,000 villages. Of these, approximately 800 have been reached with the Gospel. In Matamoros, the population hovers around the 1,000,000 mark, many living in shanty-like conditions and have never heard the Good News. Monterrey continues to be a leader in manufacturing and one of the most modern cities in Mexico. Both Monterrey and Matamoros represent opportunities to touch the world because of their respective places in the Global marketplace.
Don Albrecht saw early on the wisdom of empowering the national. He witnessed first-hand what happens all to often when a guest missionary leaves or dies. Often times the work dies simultaneously. By empowering the national, the local church is started, led and continues under local direction. We have seen how God has blessed that church that has taken ownership of the work and leadership. Our desire is to work in the background as resource providers to help the church plants and planters with resources such as Bibles and curriculum materials. In the early phases, BLFM will support new church planters with a view to decreasing that funding by 20-30% each year. This encourages local ownership of the new plant from inception.
A word about economics and the Kingdom. The following was taken from Send! magazine, a publication by Gospel for Asia:
Traditional Short Term Mission Trip
- $1,440 = two weeks of ministry
- Doesn't know the language
- Will go home in a few weeks
- May be seen as an outsider
Compared to
Maximum Mission Trip
- $1,440 = one year of ministry 2. Is a native speaker
- Will minister there for years
- Is part of the culture
In Aztec country, we can fully support a national minister and his family for about $100 per month. We truly believe that this is good stewardship and will provide for long-term thriving churches long after the outside support is finished.
